Engine Conversions
Engine Conversions
My question is what engine conversions have people on this board done on their suzukis
I would like to know how much it cost, what it goes like, and how much mucking around there is.
I am personally seriously thinking of dropping a Holden Series 1 3.8L V6 with T700 auto and a hilux transfer case behind it, as I need to replace the clutch and my 1L needs a few seals replaced.
So what have you guys done, including the zook 1.3 and 1.6L conversions
Cheers
Buddy

if you give mick hayes from superior engineering a call he'll tell you how good holden combos in fourbies are. hes in the process of removing his commo motor from the superior hilux. i know its bigger yada yada yada but the principle is the same. He blew heads, 3 transmissions that i know of (i live down the road and drive past most days) and yeah he said that he's getting rid of it and is in the process of it right now. the 1.6 conversion fully fitted dyno tested etc. can get expensive ($3000, please correct me if im wrong) so yeah think about what you want before you make a decision because for those big bucks you hope that it is worth it.
personally i am sticking with a carby motor to make life easier (old man is handy). im going a corolla 4K (if xrated hasnt sold it) and then ill set it up myself cram on a subi blower and get it dyno tuned. im lookin around a grand fully built and dyoned hopefully (i know the right people).
just thought i might add something in here, its been a while.

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
And then you need to buy or make the adapter. Andyou will be back where you just finished. with a 4wd that is either pulled apart destined to never be put back together or one that can no longer be registered.bubs wrote:I want an auto, and there is a VN for sale that runs for $350 the next suburb over
I fitted a 2T and a T18(Toyota not ford) 5Spd to one years ago and it was a simple conversion that took me 2 days without a welder. Made the complete conversion bolt in. Other than the motor and box we prob spent $100 on small bits and pieces and conecting exhast. Even converted it to Hydro clutch. Went realy well although reved its tits off because of the 1ltr Tcase.
ok done many engine conversions..
f6a single/ twincam. turbo, intercooled, efi. 660cc.
anywhere from $1200 to $3500.
power is up there with a 1.3 but really need 5.12 to really make you happy.
1.3 sierra carby.... why bother.. better than what you got..
1.3 sierra single point inj. alot more responsive and slightly more power/ fuel econemy the a carby 1.3... whole engine combo.. $1400 to $2500.
1.3 sierra engine with 1.6 single point inj. big power increase but same as above. also easy to bolt on a turbo or sc and not have to mess around with the fueling..
1.3 g13bb jimny... great little engine. single cam 16 valve multi point inj.
way more power than a std 1.3 lots more revier than a 1.6 vitara.
$1500 to $3000..
1.3 m13a jimny... even better than the g13bb. much the same but twin cam.
$1800 to $3500..
1.6 vitara carby... same deal as a 1.3 sierra carby but more power..
as these are cheaper these days it could be worth putting one in.. still its carb..
$500 to $1800.
1.6 vitara efi.. single cam 16 valve multi point inj. very good engine lots of torque and power, good feul econemy. look out for heads in these... it is common... getting unjustifyable in cost these days is about the only thing bad about em..
can be found from $500 right to $3800..
mazda rf diesel... turbo 2lt. great donk... what can i say.. more than enough power and torque to please anyone.. very realiable does not need a loom to run... need to use a toyota 2wd hilux 5 speed box behind it. not sure on a auto as these are long... lots of work but worth it .can be approved in qld.
$800 to $2200..
all of the suzuki engines are fairly easy to fit (you have the skills to do it easy).
im working on fitting a vitara 4 speed auto to a sierra 1.3 right now but dont want to give out too much info as yet.
you can use a jimny auto on the sierra/vitara engines.

Re: Engine Conversions
I like your thinking.bubs wrote: as I need to replace the clutch and my 1L needs a few seals replaced.
The Commodore V6 will give you enough torque and Hp for your zook, would even compensate for the weight. Also a cheapish conversion.
The adaptor can be purchased to bolt up to the hilux transfer, i really don't see how hard this would be. I'm guessing that an engineer would want to see some diff/break upgrades at the same time.
It would cost more to do but the 1.6 EFI Vitara donk, auto and some forced induction would also give you a range of benifits without adding too much weight.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
Are you planning on doing or have you done any mods to the auto in strengthening regards ( internals ) to handle the abuse and torque say a set of series 3 gears will put on the auto box ............
Im conteplatin goin dual case on my LWB vit wif 6.4 's in the second sierra case ......and have been worried bout how the 4spd auto will cope every1 else seems to go the 3spd vit auto option ..........obviuosly tyre size will also contribute aswell i may only be runnin 315's (35's) with max of maybe my 37"s

Yes I know I need to keep the conversion simple as I will string it out I know, Maybe a corona with a 22RE and auto could be a simple swap, if I keep with the zook t-case it makes conversions a lot simplier than using a lux t-case and not to mention cheeperRUFF wrote:And then you need to buy or make the adapter. You do realise that the larest engine in QLD you can fit legaly is a 1.6ltr single cam engine. I thought you bought this thing to build something simple and Legal?bubs wrote:Yes I know I need to keep the conversion simple as I will string it out I know, Maybe a corona with a 22RE and auto could be a simple swap, if I keep with the zook t-case it makes conversions a lot simplier than using a lux t-case and not to mention cheeper
I think the easiest and best conversion you can do here in QLD is the Vitara 1.6 engine. This is if you want to keep it legal. Thats up to you. If i were building one myself i would go a series 2 3.8ltr Commodore engine with the T700 and an LT230. But being legaly registered wouldnt bother me. I have a trailer so dont need to drive anything on road. If i build another Registered 4WD it will be a LWB Zook with this drive train along with prob 60 series diffs. But it would only ever be registered to use in the NSW comps that require rego but no Eng Certs.
Tony I have come to the same conclusion talking with a few people yesterday, I think my best choice will be a EFI 1.6L. That way I can use a vitara auto and get one of these http://ottindustries.com/kicker4.htm so I can get my auto and use a lux t-case

BUBS, up here you will get a 1.9 non normally aspirated and 2.4l normally aspirated engine passed in a class3 individual application modification.
so yes the 22re is a possibitlity or maybe a 2rzfe (nearly the grunt of the v6) or if really keen get a 2tz-fze import torago engine (180hp supercharged) remove the blower for reg then put it back on (just fit std manifolds off an old torago for $50 to get it running).

no need to. torque is not transmitted back into the auto/box.A1MAV wrote: Are you planning on doing or have you done any mods to the auto in strengthening regards ( internals ) to handle the abuse and torque say a set of series 3 gears will put on the auto box ............
