What modification rules apply in the ACT?

I'm moving from QLD to the ACT soon and was wondering what rules apply there, ie do they use the NSW RTA rules or do they have their own?

As far as I can tell my '90 Sierra will have to be inspected prior to being registered there, so I want to pass first go!

I have 2'' sus and body lift, some 30'' muddies on (have 215 road tyres still though if required)

Any advice?

Why would ACT use NSW rules? Quensland don't, Victoria don't, SA, NT, WA and Tas don't. Why would our national seat of Government and the land of Red Tape pass up an opportunity to employ more public servants to administer another set of rules.

The ACT has it's own set of rules much like the states do. Similar everywhere with slight changes, and just like Queensland it is hard to know all the rules, it depends which way the wind blows. Yes, you will need to have an inspection for transfer of registration to ACT. You will probably be alright with the suspension. Bodylift and 30"s may be looked at disapprovingly. Definitely put stock wheels on, aren't Sierra stockies 205R7015 ?

Local Suzuki specialist is KAOS 4x4 Ph 02 62535333, give them a call as they would be up to date on the whats and hows of modified Zooks passing inspections.

Sure is the land of red tape, though they might have bludged off NSW given they are surrounded by it!

Will give Kaos a call, cheers DiddyZook.

As a matter of fact ACT regs have been adopted from NSW & are virtually identical.

P, does your vehicle have a queensland mod plate fitted to it?

If so has it been approved by QLD transport? Many vehicles with mod plates in QLD have not been registered with QLD Transport.

If all this is legitamate then all you have to do is rock up to the Goverment test atation in Dickson & do an inspection. I would do everything to make sure the vehicle is road worthy before you go but dont expect to get it through first time as a couple of blokes there can be a bit cantankerus

If it hasnt been pre approved by QLD then you will have to get an engineers certificate which will get you through proveded the info on the certificate is correct.

Its a bit hard to tell without seeing the vehicle but I can give you a hand with it if you like when you get to Canberra. ;)

In Queensland the bodylift needs to be inspected by the DOT. Getting this done soon, no mod plate required though.

Will have legal tyres on it for the inspection though - most of the mods so far are aimed at making the 30's look legal :)

Thanks for the offer of help mkpatrol, will keep you in mind if I start having issues with the inspectors!

there is some pritty crazy stuff and some not so crazy stuff, if you are moving to queenbeyan then it's nsw and nsw regs apply if it's canberra then it's canberra regs. have a look at the act members run pics in the trips and tracks section to get anidear of what goes.
