Pto Driveshaft Extension 60 Series

A mate has a pto winch for a 60 series that I have to fit. The problem is it came off a 4 speed 60 and his is a 5 speed so i have to extend the driveshaft the length of his 5th gear housing to make it fit. What i want to do is cut the shaft and put an internal solid bar up the guts (assuming its hollow) weld that both ends then slip another piece of pipe over the driveshaft and then weld it each end also. So do you think that will be strong enough??

i think you will find it is solid shaft (19mm) and think you might be better off to purchase some new shaft and get the keyways machined in.

Heaps strong enough. These things use a shear pin to avoid damage that is much weaker than a join. If it's solid just sleeve over the top and weld it up.

some shafts are hollow and about 1 inch diameter, others are solid 3/4 bar, either way, if you can get it, run thickish walled tube either inside or outside and weld round...if it is a sloppy fit, dont use it, get some tight or interference fit and machine it to suit then weld...i have a shaft here at 3/4 solid, and about 500mm long if that will help out. I had to lengthen mine too using an auto....and made a new shaft out of r4 grade machined surface bar.

thanks guys i thought that might be the case because of the shear pin looks like ill give it the chop and take some measurements
