Will a 12.5" wide tyre fit on a 7" wide rim?

G'day all,

I have just got a second hand set of Pro Comp 35"x12.5" R15 MT's. I am planning on using them to test for guard hitting and rubbing on my project 90. I am also planning on using them for some off road work while I test my truck once it's done before I get it registered. I know they are suppose to be fitted to a 8" rim, but would it be okay to fit these to a 7" rim for what I plan on using them for? or am I likely to damage the tyres or have problems?

Alot of people will say dont do it... its dangerous...blah....blah but i have seen it done 33x12.5 seems to work O.K, dont know about 35x12.5s though.
The problem you'll probably have is finding somone to fit and blance them for the same reason as above.

The blue rangie at sams has 35x12.5x15 on 7's, he had to get the tyre pliers out as no-one would fit them.

The tyre will fit and it will work OK. I know a guy with a bushrangie running 35x12.5s on 7in rims and drives it everywhere. Obviously not at all legal to do and thats why tyre guys wont want to fit them. There is nothing to stop them from fitting them except the legal issues.

I put one of Ruffs 38.5 x 16wide claws on my 8in rim (for xrcc spare) and my tyre guy whinged and complained that they wouldnt go on. I told him to stop being a skirt and put the bloody thing on there. It went on no probs.

I have run 39x13 michelins on 16x7's and they were beautiful on the road, didn't even bother with balancing them. Obviously not legal though. The hardest thing is finding someone willing to fit them.

Would a 32x9.5 inch simex centipede fit onto a 6 inch rim :?:

Easily. I run 31x10 on 6's on my trailer, but being a radial the crown still sits fairly flat - the ET's might sit with a higher crown being a bias - probably get away with a lower pressure on road to flatten crown.

A mate of mines got a suzuki sierra and I think hes got 30x9.5 inch mud tyres. Not sure of the rim width but he only runs 18psi on the road.

G'day,

What about letting the pressure down, will they roll offthe rim easy?

I have no problems having to put them on myself, they don't need balancing as I won't be driving on road or fast while they are on. I was told that the beads get damaged when taking them off again (I couldn't see how).

So I think it will be okay for what I want to.
