hilux brakes

The rear drum brakes in the back of my 2wd hilux squeel real bad when braking.
The shoes have plenty of meat left and the drums are in good condition.

What could cause this problem, I was thinking that the shoes have been cooked? as they seem real brittle.
Thanks in advance for your help.

brake dust is a factor

is the backing plate hitting the drum ?

have the drums ever been machined ?

does it do it in reverse ?

my mates truck will squeal if he doesn't run yota pads for some reason :?

The drums are near new,I have only had the ute for a few weeks, it had new brakes fitted so I thought they were just wearing in.
The backing plate is not hitting the drum.
It will do it in reverse sometimes.
Might just bung new shoes in it see if it helps.

just check for a stone or something floating around in there or any rub marks
is it there at hot or cold or all the time ?
it maybe the metal in the linings if its a cheap set of shoes
