60series Chopped Quarters...

Hey guys...

Noticing that the rear quarters are rusting from the inside out through water/mud getting inside, and wondering instead of a patch up, is there any guide to simply cutting them. Have seen pics of 60s with this mod done, and just wondering any place in Victoria that would do this.

See below for pic...

Cheers...

Try Hardcore 4x4 in Mitcham. I think Dave will do that.
www.hardcore4x4.com.au

As far as the tyres go, dunno what size they are but they are Simex Extreme Trekker 2's (Centipedes)

Vanz , its pretty easy just cut them off level with the bottom of your tailgate and then all you need is some 1.5mm sheet metal to cut out and weld on the bottom of the cut , make a shape out of cardboard , tace it to your sheet , shit easy.
Heres a pic of mine , i also made the rear bar to go under the section that i cut off to protect it .

If you need a hand knackers let me know iam in melb also northern suburbs
just put some beer on ice.

too easy !

Mate does this invitation extend to all parties? :D

I'm coming down to Melb near end of year and want to cut the ol' sixty down to an extra cab but have been experimenting on welding body metal and blow me if I can get it bloody right.

Reckon I could fill the back of the ol' girl up with beers and ice that would obviously have to be consumed to cut the back off! :D

It sounds like an easier enuf DIY kinda job. I had been reading a lot on how the GQ blokes are doing their quarters, and i was thinking you would have to cut one side longer than the other, then heat up and bend the longer side up and weld up, but just using another sheet sounds an easier way.

Ive gotta put some longer shackles on next weekend, then i got some slightly newer springs i was going to put on then i would probably look at the quarter chop. Its a little daunting, thinking about cutting the body of my vehicle, but does look good when done... A custom rear bar like the one in the pick (kinda looks like the cheezy ones, could be) fitted up looks trick too, with the recovery points built in. I think the Hayme and Reese could come off mine too, hangs pretty low.

Heres another example i found.

I'm thinking about chopping my quarters in the coming months, so Instead of making a new thread thought I'd dig this one up.

Anyone care to share some pics/details of how they did theirs??

Have a look at the first three pics on this page.. http://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagon ... oab-2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Have a look at his whole build if you get a chance. It's the best 60 I've seen.

You could cut higher up near the crease like the Patrol boys do. I don't see the point in cutting higher than 5mm above your rear barwork though.

that is sick

I was planning on cutting at the second crease higher up, to go in line with the tailgat but not sure now. I've got a big dent on one side that stops pretty much at that crease so it'd be convieneint.

I like the idea of the qarter sill bars, but maybe a bit smaller, or just haveing the rear bar come around further and braced on the chassis somehow.
