I've got one of the first GU recovery point made by Outback Ideas. I'm not sure when they're available, but I'll be testing this one at the VicWinch.

what everyone doesnt know.. is the rear hoop with the 4 bolts is held on by 4 M10 bolts.. they're fuggin strong as.

have snatched heaps of times with it and towed a cruiser home with it after the cruiser's engine blew.

I'm assuming the black hook was not part of the outback ideas hook originally?

In which case it's just a bit of metal with holes in, even I could make that with naff all tools.

looks like an adaptor plate to fit those bl##dy hooks that wont fit NIssan spacing. I just bought another Nissan hook for the other side from wrecker for $20. I seen those advertised for $90 I think. Yeh I nearly choked too!!!!!!

How did you fit it to the other side?

OP, I did the same as Andrew- passenger side chassis rail has holes with welded nuts inside- mirror of drivers' side rail so Nissan hook fits. But I picked up OBIdeas plate too ($50 at TJM for those wanting price) as I had to get winched sideways out of a hole recently- used a tie down point which is now nicely bent! Question for you- what size bolts are they (I haven't fit up yet) and can you fit to passenger side too :?: :?: :?:

Did you bend the original Nissan front recovery point?

The original bolts were used to fit the recovery plate on my GU. For the passenger side, if the holes line up then you should be able to fit them there as well.

Bent the Nissan shipping tie down point (under the body mount)- I have no original bolts- I GOT EMPTY NUTS!!! Passenger side has holes in same pattern but no nut welded inside rail- could try feeding in from other side (weld nut to coathanger wire or something)- would be good to have two front points to attach shackles to and help distribute loads evenly down both rails. :?

And the loop is held to the backing plate by two fillet welds in tension that may or may not be good welds or adequately sized.

the holes for that black hook are too close to the slot. doesnt meet basic engineering standards. may of passed load testing but poor design is poor design

The hook i got was from a nissan, not sure which model. Its just a straight piece of bar bent arond with the end flattened and holes in it Bolts up under chassis rail on passenger side. Not a lot of clearance to tie down point though, which is used to bolt on ARB bar, so I cant cut it off.
