S - A - S ???

Post by ausyota »

Anyone on here done a solid axle swap on an IFS hilux ?
Is it pretty straight foward?
Do any companys make a SAS kit with all the hangers steering etc?
Would it be worth going with coils (or coil overs) and a link setup at the same time or could I just do that at a later date?
My IFS travel is pretty lacking :x
I was thinking about putting a locker in my front end and though to myself, "self you dont want to waste money on a locker when later on you are going to cut the IFS out!"
So now Im thinking how much will a solid axle setup cost me?
Paul.

There are several people on here that have done an Ifs- solid swap. If your going to go with leafs up front its pretty staight forward, just cut the old shit off and drill a couple of holes in the frame and weld a couple of hangers on and your done. I think most companies will be able to set you up with a kit with everything you need.

I think allprooffroad.com in the US make a solid axle front kit. There is a heap of info about doing this over at pirate4x4.com. Just do a search :)

i am planning on doing the solid axle swap aswell snake racing do a good kit all it involves is welding on a new cross member and the spring hangers on everything else just bolts on the only thing is you have to use crossover steering wich is the most expensive part there are ways around it but i think crossover would be the easyist and best way may as well do the job right the first time.

Its not my Toy but I helped get it sorted:

Range Rover coil towers + coils
Front arms are Mitsi Pajero rears
Hilux axle with IFS hub conversion
70 series steering arms, Prado pitman, IFS steering box

KISS principle :)

Im just trying to sort out what I need so I can start collecting a pile of parts.
I am going to do the IFS hub swap thing, can I use my IFS brake callipers?
I am thinking of putting a high pinion diff up front as well.
These are hard to find with 4.88s right?
Should I just buy an easy to find ratio and change the gears?
Paul.
