Outer Limits 4x4 Board

HI all,

I need some assistance from other Vitara 8V engine owners out there.

At the front of the head (inlet side) there's a vacuum switch of some description. It has two wires and a vacuum hose connected to it. Well, it's supposed to anyway!

On my car, it's been disconnected (by cutting the wires) and I'm trying to find out if that could be the cause of my shitty fuel economy.

Can you guys please advise (if you know) what this device is responsible for, and, where the other end of the vacuum hose to this device joins onto?

think it switches on the EGR system when in top gear and at opp temp

and EGR is an economy anti pollution thing nothing else so if it doesn't work then you wont notice a difference in driveability but only slighty in the hip pocket cos of extra fuel consumption

That explanation makes sense. I will definitely re-connect it, because 15L/100km is a joke!

I wonder if anyone can advise where the other end of the vacuum hose that connects to this solenoid is supposed to be connected, as it would appear that all positions on the carby base, etc are used, so I have no idea where it has to go.

Any further advice is appreciated.

Digging up an old post rather than starting a new one. Im doing a 1.6 carb conversion into a 1litre. Just got the small things to finish off.

I need a bit of help/confirmation on what the things with the arrows in this pic are.

I think:
Far left: Goes to air cleaner top (I dont have an air cleaner yet)

Second from Left: ????No Idea????

3rd from Left: Goes to cold/warm air control flap thingy before air cleaner??? It looks like it is long enough to reach to that spot.

Right: EGR Valve??? Should there be another pipe coming off the top or just a little air filter type thing.

Another pic where you can see 2, 3 and 4 better.

I'm pretty sure no.1 on the left plugs into the bottom of the stock air filter housing (there's two air sockets under there)...and no.4 is the thing that I was asking about when I started this post. It's the thing that reduces fuel consumption in top gear. You should find wiring nearby for it to be wired back up.

I have now sold the 8V car and I'm driving the 98 model EFI (2L) one, so I can't be of any more help to you I'm afraid.

Well done on digging up the old post and starting from there though. Most people wouldn't bother.

There isn't any wires unfortunately, the old motor didn't have any of this stuff on it, and the wiring in the car that this motor came out of was a bit bastardised.

I havnt got my zook here to look at but I had to run a wire to power (alternator charge wire as power stops when car stops) and one to earth. Something to do with fuel solinoid if that helps any?
