Fixing my flipped Rocky - What to do??

Some of you may remember my introductory tale of woe several months back now. To get you up to speed, I have an '84 F75 Rocky which I rolled onto its roof. It has been sitting doing not much at all for quite a while now, and I really want to get it back to registerable condition soon.

I was waiting on a bloke to decide what to do with his Rocky before he went overseas, hoping to get the complete thing pretty cheap and swap some parts, but he's since sold it to the wreckers.

I rang them today, and they've given me this rough idea:
$850 for the body, but without doors and stuff I need
$1250 for the body, doors + windscreen but more for the rear door
$1500 to get the whole body and bits I need, so it is a relatively simple job of bolting the body on my chassis.

Is $1500 reasonable? Is there any other options? I did see a registered Rocky out near Mt Sugarloaf for $3000 which would be another option (if it is still there - not likely methinks).

What do you guys think?

$1500 sounds reasonable so long as all the panels are straight and not too much bog.

It sounds 'bout $1500 cheaper than buying the already registered one, but if you've let your rego lapse, it may end up being cheaper to buy that rather than go through all the hassles of trying to bring your original one up to roadworthiness.

It may also be better buying the $3000 one and use your original one for spares.....depends on how much room you got at home to store another vehicle to use as bits :?

Yeah, apparently in reasonable nic, I'll try to get out and have a look soon. Tis about all I can afford right at this moment too.

Not having to worry about registering for a while would be nice (I cashed my plates in some time ago), and in the meantime I can do some little things like putting my bullbar on. Room shouldn't be a problem I don't think. If I could talk them down to $2500 or something, I'd prolly go that way. Be nice to have a car load of spares!

So Heath......have you been out to see if that Rocky was still for sale ??

If so, could you talk 'em down to $2500 ??

Went out there Monday night. No show! Knocked on the door of the house next to the empty lot where the Rocky was parked and some stoner answered the door - "Nah mate, been 'ere for years... never seen it there".

I know it was there a month or two ago! Bit of a worry. It is actually kind of a strange place to leave a car for sale, since it is not exactly a high traffic route. My hope is that it only appears there during the day or something, and the stoner next door is asleep at that time. I plan to go for a good look, talk to some other service station guys / locals, see what I can see on the weekend, since I don't think I'll get a chance during the day this week.

Bit worried about it really. More I think about it, more I realise it would be great if I could get that car for $2500ish - I can drive it back (it was registered) and swap parts with my Rocky at leisure. I think I could be a bit ripped off by the wrecker - and I'm still stuck without a car trailer, parts, rego and would have to get them to do the body swap.

Still more disappointment.

Haven't been able to track down the Rocky I saw for sale, and I just made a trip out to the Wrecker at Bennetts Green today (Track Down Spares). The bodies they had out there were rusty and pretty shite and probably not worth buying whole. The greasy bloke out there recommended talking to a panel beater first, see what they reckon.

I guess that's my next move. This is so depressing, I want my Rocky back!
