had the misfortune of destroying an alternator on the weekend. thought a replacement would be easy as there is no vacumn pump etc hanging off it. wanst the case, finding one was hard enough but there is a mob who sells aftermarket newies in canberra for $549 dollars. new one from holden was $1000+. is there anyway to protect them (shroud or something) as avoiding mud etc is not an option in victoria. also, finally, some photos of car, just had xterrains fitted and so far so good.

Are you sure it is destroyed? I have had mine full of mud and it stops working however cleaning it has always brought it back. I was quoted about $350 just for the regulator from Holden. Nobody appeared to make an aftermarket regulator for it. I never bought it though as cleaning it worked fine.

I avoid deep mud though. Easy when you're in Qld

Yep, i shagged mine a few months back after a very muddy weekend, you know - bow waves of pure slop up over the bonnet etc..

Anyway, chased around and best price i could get on mated rates from bursons was $380 for a reco unit (3.5 v6), got onto an auto sparky close to work and they pulled it, re-built it with new bearings brushes bushes etc. re-fitted it and tested for $ 310 all up.

Mine had done 150,000k so i wasnt too pissed off.
