If anyone here is ever going to fit a Holden V6 ecotec from a VT onwards to a MQ/MK, just a quick a tip, the drivers side manafold hangs out too far, stopping you from getting the motor forward enough for the aircon compressor to clear the passenger side engine mount, see pic

so if you dont want to make custom extractors, all you gotta do is fit a manafold off a VS ecotec, it hugs the motor, giving you heaps of room.
Just thought i'd share that with you

Would it be easier fitting extractors as the vs manifold is prone to cracking arnt they?

Yea screwy, the sound of a V8 is great, but fuel aint gettin any lower eh!, I did not realise the VS manafolds are prone to cracking, extractora may still be on the cards, at least the motor is in the position it needs to be in, and there is plenty of time to make some

True but the motor has to be worked alot more to move the truck than a lazy V8 would... you may still be using the same amount of fuel anyway.

im interested to see how if performs.... the motor isnt much bigger than a standard one and designed for a sedan so will be interesting as to the difference it makes...

hows 11l/100km hwy , 13l/100km town for fuel economy ,very similar acceleration to a std commodore wont drag off a modded one but will dust most stockers
wheel spin easy be carefull in the wet ,sand on fraser island towing a camper no sweat towing car trailer loaded still slight struggle on hills but not that bad
all up it goes that well i cant get the missus out of it as she claimed it for hersif you need any more info pm me as i dont get on here much or call mick 0415156693

I think they would be ok, they are 1 litre bigger then the 2.8 an has more hp, thats a start. If you where patient you could get a supercharged one for a good price.

Considering it's 20kw more than a 4.2 patrol, shorter gearing and a lot less weight than a GQ 4.2 I can't see it being a bad thing.

be careful if you decide to run extractors. most of the ones designed for a commodore will put the RH collector in the same spot the front tailshaft needs to be.

Do ya self ( and us ) a favour........

Download a program called "Infraview" from here......
http://www.irfanview.com/

It allows you to do a far better "end result" on ya pics that are imposiable to see ..... poor light, excessive flash, etc etc etc.....

couldnt see the "chassis pic" you posted untill I did a quick enhancement of it.

One of the reasons the V8 guys go for "block hugger extractors".....
have a look here......
http://www.castleauto.com.au/
They may allready have em to suit the V6...... if not then they can make a set to suit or you can even get the componets and assemble em ya self.

The second car was a diesel so a remote transfer and propshafts were sourced, a bracket made and welded, you can see the old gearbox mounts infront of the transfer

May I ask what the transfer case is out of Hoppy? I am thinking of putting a Holden 5 speed in and getting another MQ front diff, if I can get a divorced transfer case to fit under the Pathy. Having the pumkin on the correct side would be alot easier on the pocket if I break something.

Thanks for that info. Now to see if I can get one between the chassis and the floor.

I believe there are 2 types of bashplates available for the divorced transfercase, the one we put into the diesel sits the transfer about 30mm higher than the the original one the the 84 petrol wagon that I have, also mine was a 4 speed, I'm not sure what was infront of the transfer that was bought for the diesel, cause the propshafts were different lenghts to mine, meaning the transfer originally sat 50mm forward of mine. this would give the front propshaft to front crossmember a little extra clearance too. also the diesel chassis engine mounts are 70mm forward than the petrol mounts, which means you dont need to shave the corner of the sump, cause it clears the diff, you can see in the top pic 9diesel chassis) that the small propshaft is sitting nearly level, due to the transfer being higher, and the shaft is longer than the 2nd pic (petrol chassis), where the shaft is shorter and on more of an angle(the auto and transfer are still on the same plane though).

The Ex diesel MQ now V6 Ecotec is my fun project. Adding a remote transfer case was easy having the L28 next to it to copy. job is much easier if u get transfer case and bash plate it mounts to.
