Wierd Elect problem

Ok elect boffins can any1 help wen i start the little MAV ,and its runnin i can hear a relay comin in and out and the volt meter drops from bout 14 to 10-12 and wen ya have the lights on they dim aswell ...................But once it runs for a minute or so it stops :?:

I cant work it out :roll:

Sounds like Glo Plug Timer relay to me.

Mine does that biz too, has done it for ages and always goes away after
15 seconds or so.

So is it just not cuttin out once started or ya reckon the G plugs are up to shite

does it only do it wen the motor is cold Dan ??? maybe it is just keeping the plugs hot on startup so that the motor can start up and gett running easily ???

Nah im pretty sure it duz it all the time ( you have seen it do it )

unless as ruff mentioned the timer is playin up

yeah i know i have seen it but i cant remember if the motor was cold or hot and yeah mayb the timer is playing up ??

sound like the glowplugs thermostat [or whatever controls them] cutting the glow plugs in until the motor warms up enough to keep them off.

I'm assuming it's a diesel - the Glow plug timer receives infor from a number of sources - water temp is one of them. During the cooler months, of course the timer will remain on longer to heat the plugs - run a test light on the plugs to see if the timer shuts off after a time. Also check the continuity of the plug to see if it's stuffed. The timer will light the plugs up everytime you start the vehicle, hot or cold.
