V6 Oxygen Sensor

Have a 98 Rodeo on duel fuel.
"CHECK ENGINE" light came on for a couple of days so I took it to the Holden dealer today to get an analysis and code P0701 came up. Running too rich or something.
He reckons the O2 sensor is stuffed.

Anyone bought a new genuine one or is there a good aftermarket one available?
And how much was it?

Will post the quoted price from this dealer after I get a few other prices.

This was my response to their quote anyway:

Yes Dani
My local auto electrician can source a Bosch one for about $100 Aus. but he isn't sure if it will be the right one for mine as the engine details are confusing. I will find out tomorrow after he calls Bosch.

For example: the build dates and engine designation are different to Bosch's details. Bosch says the 3.2 V6 (6VD1) stopped in January 1998 but mine was built in June 1998 on the Jap compliance plate and the Aust. compliance date is July 1998.
Get's confusing eh?
Does'nt mean Izuzu stopped fitting them in Jan. 98 though.

On a brighter note though, mine only has one sensor to replace, not 2 or 4 like on some :D

Another thing is, I found out that the Holden Dealer only read the code while it was running on LPG which means the oxygen level is probably different to that of unleaded. If he had run it on petrol and checked the code it may have been a different story.
Anyway the "check engine" light only came on for 2 days and went off before I took it to the dealer so I'm going to ask my LPG guru for his opinion before I go and buy a sensor

Cheers

Hi Guys. I checked this for my self just yesterday (8/12/05) and they were available from Repco ex-Sydney stock for $129 inc each. Just wish there was a cheaper way to read the codes like the Camry (paper clip in plug causes management light on dash to blink out the relevant problem in code). Anyone know of a way other than paying Holden? Strawb

Gday strawb. The Holden dealer here charged me 16 bucks to do a Tech 2 the first time but second time it was free (rechecked a few weeks later)
I cant see how they can charge any more than that for a 5 minute job that involves pressing a few buttons.
Yes some cars display the error code on the dash panel by connecting the relevant pins in the connector. There is a bit of a list in the Isuzu tech section on Australia 4wd forum of Isuzu's that it can be done with and also which pins to connect. On Planet Isuzu site there is the list of codes that will tell you what each code is for, for each engine.

As for that 02 sensor I was quoted $650 + gst from the Holden dealer for the OEM unit  , a Denso sensor. My auto sparky could get one for $500 inc. gst but I found the same one on a USA OEM online warehouse for $125AUD including shipping to Oz. It will take a while to get here though (ship/customs etc) Air frieght would be quicker but more expensive.
As it turned out the check engine light only stays on when I run it on LPG and goes out on petrol even though the LPG processor is displaying a correct mixture.
On my next trip to the big smoke I'm getting it all tested on a 4 gas analyser while running on a dyno just to make sure all is ok.

BTW, I got the same quote for an aftermarket one from Repco but it had a different connection from mine. The salesman said just cut and solder the wires onto the new plug. A BIG no no according to my auto sparky as these wires are extremely voltage sensitive and doing that would stuff the readings up. Even your everyday silicon, the fumes from it can ruin sensitive electrical components such as sensors on modern day vehicles although there is a special silicon that can be used but he reckons there is no need as they are usually well sealed.
Good luck with the code reading

Hi Sudso

I mentioned that to the Repco guy as I had heard that too (reversed wiring or something) but he said they were aware of that and they were definately for the 2002 Frontera. Of course I would be taking the crook one in to compare. Could you email me at bwarts@gmail.com I may have some thing for you and the other guys but not sure if to mention it online. Strawb

Can you advise which USA website you found it on and the AC-Delco part number?

Thanks

Yep it was: auto parts warehouse/All OEM Parts Inc.

Wasn't an AC Delco sensor I ordered it was an OEM Denso, but they have AC Delco stuff too.

Had no probs with the supplier, major hassles with the shipping company though - DHL.
It arrived in the Adelaide depot via Sydney but DHL lost it at their Adelaide depot.
I am still F*****G waiting for it!
It was despatched from Sydney early December 2005!!!
They have finally sent me a claim form so they can reorder it for me.
All at their expense of course

Here's the link to the OEM parts site anyway,
Good Luck!

Thanks,

I like their site, especially the live chat help system.

I have to go and get the part number because the Jack has a single 4 wire heated sensor here in AU, bit over there they have 2 or 4 per vehicle so there is no direct part number listed.

Is yours a Delco or Denso?

The Denso has a flat plug 4 pin connector, 2 black wires, 1 white, 1 blue

If this is yours the part # is 5010-100877
There is a good picture of it too on there.

On their site click O2 sensors > Denso, you'll find it.

Yeah the live chat is good, though I went through all the "but you need 4 sensors" bullshit before they got it that I only wanted one

Good Luck
