Engine rebuild

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good cheap engine rebuilder in the sydney area, i know good and cheap don't really go together, but i'm hope for once they could.
I'm looking at getting a x20se, the 2L frontera motor rebuild, i've lost my license so want to rebuild the engine before i look at supercharged the nugget. and also i need a bull bar asap, with out it, it basically looks like a chicks car.
If anyone can help or if they can even give me a price it would be a great help.

IMO - i wouldn't trust a low cost rebuild for a blown mtr. better to do it yourself. ie send the bits away for machining, polish the rods yourself, check all measurements bla bla bla. do what you can on the head - then put together you own mtr. places like hm , repco are ok for stock but they are just slapped together.
machine block, crank, resize rods, new hyper pistons (low comp)
should be around $1000
head & cam - $500
real rough prices - i dont know any thing about your donk.
i have just about finished doing a 202 and have spent around $2000
but i went overboard a bit. depending on the condition of the old parts
i would think around 1000 - 1200 dollars should get you a rebuilt motor
or the same money if you do it yourself (but you should end up with a better motor)

Have you thought about checking out the Calibra turbo engine and seeing if that would bolt in? Fairly rare vehicle but you may be lucky and find an engine- or might be able to use parts off one.

if you want the calibra option i have new turbo manifolds,
twin tb manifold + fuel rail + idle air stepper + other bits all new.
no loom or injectors. in stock $100.

The frontera donk is locally made for the pommy built isuzu, is this the same as the front drive german made calibra ? Why not drop in an isuzu 3.2 V6 from a jackeroo/ rodeo or even better a 2.8 tdi ?

I admire your willingness to give an engine rebuild a go as you've got to start somewhere but a blown engine is a different kettle of fish! a naturally aspirated engine is difficult anough to do properly without adding things like low compression pistons,correct ring gaps,o ringing heads etc.I would estimate that by the time you spend a small fortune on the correct pistons ,rings,brgs,cyl head mods and all other machining you wouldn't get much change out of a couple of thousand dollars and i doubt if you would like to chance putting it together yourself!!!

the motor isn't blown yet, it has noisy bearings and cam so a new engine would be the go, i'm tempted to do the engine my self at work but dont want the hasle of it. how much engine mount mods would have to be done to fit the calibra motor in?

I'm not sure, but possibly it uses the same block and you could bolt it straight in using your normal mounts? Your current bellhousing may even bolt straight up too?
