i thought that also except the red light only comes on occasionally when is shift from high to low range. when it does come on is shift back to high drive forward a little than shift back into low and it goes out. i think its an alarm/warning type thing, but i don't know what for.

Is it an auto?

Mine has one next to the gear lever, thats something like Auto Transmission Problem warning light.

yes it is an auto
Auto Transmission Problem sounds about right i guess, i know there is a
phot o of that in the gregory's manual for gq's but it's only a partial and i can't read it.

strange that it only comes on when he shifts to low range though.

If you have just bought the car, take it back. but be aware they dont just unplug the light!

i googled it

auto transmission pressure warning
low oil pressure auto trans

it is odd though that it only comes on whilst im actually shifting, once im in gear it goes out, it also lights when im shifting out of low. it only happens occassionally aswell.

anyway im getting all the fluids and filters changed next week so ill have it checked then.

thanks.

sorry but you are all wrong, (AUTO'S ONLY)

it's the auto park lock warning
it's to warn you to either shift to high or low range before parking the vehicle in park cos when the transfercase is in nuteral and the auto is in park, the light will come on ! and it means when the transfer is in that position the auto's park function has no effect on the vecicle and it could roll away if you only relied on park and not the handbrake too

you will notice that if you shift from high to low when the auto is in nuteral
then the light will not come on

so pretty much it's just an idiot factor warning light for people with no common sence

and nothing to worry about

hope this all helps

yeah its because patrols have a transmission mounted handbrake (as opposed to my lux which is on the rear drums - indifferent of which gear it is in)

sorry for entering the nissan section... i was bored :finger:

the hanbreak works even if the gerabox and transfer is in neutral. only works the front wheel when in 4x4. It locks the rear tailshaft hence the rear axles
