Hey Guys...

A mate is wanting to get into wheeling and likes the tuff little beasts that you all rave about.

I know stuff all about Sierras.

What year/model would be a good base for him to get. He wants a soft top. We will be buying from dealer auctions so he can go for a later model for fairly cheap coin and still mod it.

Not looking at hilux axel conversions, or V6 engine swaps.

Just want to do some basic stuff - lifted and long-travel sus, bigger rubber, body lift, and a locker in the arse.

Can do all/most of the work ourselves...but will probably be asking a heap of Qs later on.

All info greatly appreciated.

Try in the sierra bible and also searching.

Pre-coily would be my bet of getting. -96.

yep, get a widetrack (90-94 models cheapest) leaf sprung... from a dealer, you may get as higher price as $4500 for a 1990 though...

or keep an eye out on the side of the road, one of our Bayside members picked up a clean widetrack for 2700.

Are leaf sprung better than coils?

Don't tell me they made the Sierras IFS with coils in the rear...PLEASE tell me they didn't.

na they didn't. i would go leaf, you can get enough flex out of leaf sprung and it is a lot easier and cheaper than coil or a coily

coilys are alot more expensive to buy straight up

and have a lot of flaws
