Does anyone know where to get hold of some automatic side steps, that connect to your interior light switch, so they fold down when your door opens, and fold up when your door is closed.
cheers

I was looking for those for mine, but they are incredibly expensive. Even the small tube ones that retract (just a foot peg really) are around $300 US.
By the way, I'm in category number 1.

use a caravans retractable step....when you park ya car start honking and throwing out random abuse...when people gather around to take a look at this fool...ask one politely to retract your steps so ya can get out.

$1250 us. they know how to sting ya.
assuming you have 2 kids, thats 10secs in and 10 sect to lift them out,
assuming you earn $50 and hour.
20 sec a trip, 5 trips to the min, 300 trips to the hour.
Its costs you $50 for 300 trips
1250/.76= $1644.70 aust $
divide that by $50(300 trips) = 32
x 300 = 9600
therefore before fright, installation and further time involved with the setup
it will take 9600 trips to pay itself back.
assuming 3 trips per day
=3200 days.
/365=8.76 years.
But by then your kids would be big enough to get out themselves.
so is it justifiable no, wank factor maybe
just my thoughts bru

wouldn't be too hard to make yourself, a little bit of pneumatic know-how and about $300 for bits...... but stopping them from being damaged would be another factor......

that was great, it could be more fun watching them trying to get in by themselves.

I would have thought that you could make it okay for the kids with a handle low down on the door or something so they can heave themselves up. Kids are either (a) pretty agile or (b) in need of the exercise.
When I read your first post I thought it must be for your mum

Cheaper option would be to get a new missus

I have same probs - kids in category #3, also missus in what i assume is category #4 - what i'm thinking of doing is making steps which fold down either on a spring or simply fold down, locking pin holds them down during non-4wd adventures (Kmart, Coles, Work, etc), and same locking pins up higher hold the steps up out of the way for 4wd trip (eg. Gutters, Dirt Driveways, etc) seeing as the steps will only get in the way when fourbying.
