chains for winching and overheating

two questions first
first, i have a set of chains from beaver sales, which were sold on the basis of being 4WD chains. i was originally going to use them for dragging around timber and clearing tracks etc. I noticed the other day that i can't connect my winch cable to my bullbar recovery points (for double line pull)because the cable eye isn't big enough to get the bow through and neither is the hole in the recovery point. I was considering attaching the chains to the front two points on the bar using two shackles and the dog hooks and then attaching the cable to the middle of the chain. This way i have an equalized load on the bullbar, and can double line pull. Can i use chain for winching? I believe it is called T50 chain or something or rather. I would call beaver, but i am on nightshift till i get back and won't have the opportunity.
secondly, i replaced the water pump on the 1HZ after destroying the seal. before the swap, the temp always ran at about a quarter, now it fluctuates between a quarter and three quarters. It mainly does it on the highway, but occasionally on the track too. The thermostat is only a year old, but the overheating only started happening after the pump swap. Any suggestions before i go and rip out the thermostat? does a high flow thermostat exist for this engine?
It looks like i will be going to Werock this weekend coming, so if anyone wants to hook up there and have a few beers let me know. Can anyone tell me if they are coming and how i can recognize their rigs. Mine will be the troopy having trouble getting over the speed bumps or getting recovered from potholes
