Pitman arm removal

Post by Nev »

trying to get the pitman arm off the steering box end to put in a new box. Are they on a tapered spline? What is the easiest way to get it off?
Thanks

ethier a puller or if the box is shagged take the nut off the bottom and the top off the box and flog the shaft through from the bottom with the biggist hammer you can find  . applying heat will also help ;)

used the following method a couple of times on a Chrysler Royal I had some years back

loosen nut off

take 2 hammers (large) hold one against the side of the pitman arm (part where the shaft goes through) and strike the oppersite side with the other hammer repeat until either it comes off or you give up and try to find a puller or a bigger hammer
