Looking at putting a new exhaust on my Defender in the next week or so just wanted people's opinion on what size and what sort of benifits gained. Was looking at 2.5"from the turbo back and then will do some fuel pump mods to try and get it moving along better.

Cheers Kev...

3 inch from turbo back, spools up heaps quicker and revs a little smoother at top end. one only muffler

so kev, decided to keep the defender? good to see.
i had a 3 inch in mine straight through, and gee it was noisy - exited just infront of the rear wheel. if you do go three inch, exit it at the rear and try to put in some sort of muffler. it sounds great for about 5 minutes, but if you have to go on a few hours drive somewhere - gee its annoying.

kev, bros. exhaust in geelong can do 3" press bend that flows as much as 2.5" mandrel bent pipe but much cheaper.
i will be using them my self when i get around to that stuff
they also have a shop in hoppers crossing but i don't think they can press bend 3".

I had a full 3" mandrel bent done from the back of the turbo for $500.

Very noticeable reduction in turbo lag and an improvement in fuel economy.

Oh, yeah...and the best bit.... It sounds bigger than a Mack truck

i have a 2.5'' mandrel system off the turbo straight through (no muffler of any kind just pipe) and its fantastic huge difference in power with out affecting the economy, may have slightly improved it.
