Does anyone know the original output of an alternator off a Holden Red 308? Which alternators could be a direct swap to upgrade?

Depends on the model the red came out of but usually 35 or 55 amp units, if internally regulated any of the holden six or V* alternators will fit.

It is an ingram Alternator with external regulator - looks big. I think it may be 85 amp - any way of telling?

If it is an ingrams it will be based on a bosch alternator, usally stamped on the body of the alternator what it's output is. If not just ring ingrams and quote the model number of the alternator and they will give you all the info required they are a helpful bunch or try their website

Hope this helps
