Outer Limits 4x4 Board

TO LATE TO TURN BACK NOW. Just letting ya's know that i have started to cut the 60 into a ute and will be putting a rough step by step with photos on what i have done. I have already striped it and done most of the cutting before i thought of this but you will get the jist of it.
Plans are:
finnish off rear of cab
move diff 250mm rear wards
re-install 50mm body lift
Run either 38-39's

I bought a 302 cleavo and a C4 to put in it but not sure its the best way to go. OR
Turbo the 2H. OR
A 4.0l falcon motor and put a hair dryer on it.

This all has to be done by Xmas
Any comments would be helpful

By the way you should consider moving this to the members section as it will be moved there by the mods anyway. If you do it it won't piss them off like I did

Yeah just contact a mod and say you F****D up and put it the wrong place, also ask them where they are going to put it as I couldn,t find mine for a while.

By the way are you chooping and welding the original back on as the rear of the cab or are you putting on a flat piece of sheet metal?

If you are going with the sheet metal what crossmembers did you leave and where are you welding it on?

I've cut it along the roof where the interior light is mounted as there is a cross member there that will help the roof. I will be sheeting the bottom half of the rear with 1.6 sheet and fab up supports on the inside with RHS. The top i will use the rear window to fill the gap and sheet around it. I will have the photos up next week.

im guessing you want this for some pretty serious off roading??? then go the V8, dont worry about the diesel mate, you'll definately thank yourself for it later

Mate you must have read my mind, I am currently in the process of cutting down a 60 series, holden fuel injected v8, toyoata LC auto, 80 series diffs, 2in body lift, 2in spring, 2 in shackles on 36 inch centrepedes. Finished rear diff install, currently doing front diff, motor converted (done). I am going to cut along the body mount just at the front of the rear seat, (which will become the rear cab body mount) and turn her into a extra cab trayback.

dont forget to brace the cab up before you cut the back completely off otherwise it will probably move out of shape

Yeh i think i will go the 8. Its already sprung over and bodylift so the 35's look a little small. Photo's will be up next week.

if I had the choice i would try to find a 351 to go in, they are the same physically as a 302 but you will get a lot more torque out of the bigger motor ( perfect for offroad and big tyres)

the only reason I went with the holden was that I had it already and I wnted EFI but you can EFI anything nowadays without too much trouble
If you gonna do som serious offroad a carby is not a good option

Starting to find rust in mine, and a little scared to start looking harder for it, (along the top of the gutters, top corners of front windscreen, etc etc)

Probably need to start cutting/fixing.

Thats one of the reasons i cut mine, cancer. Not much but i thought that it would look better as a ute.
With the motor the only draw back with the V8 is it needs to be on straight gas and there is only one servo with gas here, dam country towns.

I have found myself a good straight body for around $500 and have organised an 80 series chassis with 5 link front suspension mounts, chev engine mounts, drive line mounts raised above the rails and a flipped rear end to borrow to help with the build up thanks to 80ute

Already have 80 front diff hub to hub and a part time transfer. Have made the necessary phone calls to find a rear diff hub to hub and a 4.5 petty/TD cruiser box at the right price

Just have to get all the main parts in the one shed and start choppin

Yeah, i swear i seen pics of someone who had made a 60 trayback... Not sure if it was on here or not though. It did look pretty good but.

Sorry guys but as ya might know theres trouble with posting pix. Got a few for ya but cant post em. Its pretty much up to the grind and sand stage, then some bog and leak check and all is sweet.
I moved the diff back 300 mm to make it look in proportion (looks PHAT )
Removed the body lift but thinking of re-instaling it, and thats about it.
Thinking of keeping the 2H and turboing it for the time being, just want to drive it.

Hey TUFF60, Still waiting on photos dude How far have you progressed with the conversion? I still haven't started as the bloke I'm getting the body off is trying to sell the motor and wants to keep the vehicle drivable.

I decided to play around with photo editer/paint shop to see what I would like it to look like and this is what I came up with Wasn't sure whether to have a rear quarter window or not but for the extra work I don't think it's worth it. What do you guys think?

That looks trick. This bloody computer, this is the only photo that it will let me post. Gets painted on Tuesday, finnish the tray at end of week then to Eng.

Been thinking about the chop recently, and it looks a lot better after you photoshopped that dangling bit of trim i cant shake off under the door too

Before i lenghtend the wheel base and on 35's

Looking shit hot , one question is why lengthen the wheel base ??

Why because i thought it looked a bit dicky, and now it looks in porportion

Will be a bit wider once i cut the rims and reweld 50 mm further in

just a few questions , what sort of leaf pack are you running reasonably flat or not ,
also ive got 37's not 38's but soon
under my 60 and they tuck in nice after the fork lift treatment , but i am wondering have you trimmed your front guards and have you modded your inner guards.
But wait there is more can you give me you height from the ground to you roof gutter roughly in a line directly above you dorr handle for example pls.
