CV's

After having taken out the new 88 rangie i bought for the second time i Have busted the CV joint, which then stuffed the stub axle and the main (longer axle), which i Thing is a Jacmac, as the car has 35 and lockers. I also have to replace some other stuff. What do you guys reckon my options are, do I need another Jacmac axle, as it looks expensive ( don't mind paying extra if it lasts) how about the CV, are there any strengthened ones I can easily fit, or should I just get some original ones (are they normally pretty tough). Any feedback would be much apreciated Thanks

not sure, will have to count, do you mean the bigger axle or the stub axle

The number of splines on the end of the inner axle that fits into the cv joint.

24 splines = good
31 splines = bad. These are weak cv's

Never heard of 23 spline but then I'm pretty new to it all. I recently upgraded my CV's with Maxi Drive kit along with my axles. Expensive but like you, I don't mind paying for strength and my aim is to limit breakages when out playing. My thoughts are, if you have lockers you should have strong axles too, plus if you are running 35s.
I wouldn't be putting standard axles in with a locker but then I suppose it depends on how you drive it.

23 splines on the CV end is correct 24 on the diff centre end of you maxi axle though

The 23 splines are the older 2-piece Rangie CV's IICR :D

These are the best Rangie CV's IMO, although I do run 32's and not 35's, I have yet to break one (especially the way I drive :twisted:).

110 Conty ones are stronger but brittle. We had a bloke at the RRC a few months back bust his 110 County job on a 'chardonay' trip climbing an easy hill. Maybe a badly manufactured one, dunno :?: :?:

so, scould i just replace everything that's damaged with the same stuff that came out, this the vest option, as it will still be the same as the other side, so these 3piece CV's are they comparable to a patrols

the only problem with the 606665 range rover cv is #they are too hard, so they get good road miles #2 they have a ten spline stub shaft thats piss weak, but this can be a good option as this can be your "fuse" and its not to hard to change.

Sorry, my bad post doh!

I should have said 23 instead of 24 splines
and I should have said 32 instead of 32 splines

The best rover cv's are the 110 county cv's (23 spline).

The stronger option is to use aftermarket 4340/300M cv's from cv's unlimited or Longfield. The longfield ones are for toyota so you need new axles and have to bore the spindles and fit new bushes - all of the details can be found by searching this forum.

I have a set of new front axles for sale.
These are as used by Mike Smith in the front end of his 2 door rangie.
They are 24 Spline and come with side gears to suit an ARB airlocker.
$650-00 the lot.
