What Engineers?

I'm always reading about people taking their trucks to the "engineers" to be passed for road driving LEGALLY etc etc.

Anyway, bit of a story. A guy that we were putting up a kit house for just bought a 96/97 coily zook. He was going on about how much better the ride is compared to leafs blah blah blah. I got thinknig of doing a coil conversion to my 95, not sure with the setup. Still need to investigate more. Basically want coils for tough factor and to get it flexing well and help with the ride a bit.

Enough of the story. I am trying to find out what engineers you go to? I havn't a ShortyIQ clue i.e Are there special mechanical engineers or something that do this work or can you just go to the engineers down the road that do all kinds of fab work?

The "engineer" must be an "approved person" under Qld Transports scheme.

I've found QT's phone help isn't too bad, once you get to actually talk to someone. They can probably give you the name of someone in your area who can help you out.

Cheers,

Scott

Another thing is the approved person must be approval for that modification. There are a heap of different codes that apply to different mods and hardly any engineers will have them all. Most will have only what beings in the commercial jobs. Unfortunately Joe Public has a rep of wanting the world and not paying. Hence most engineers don't like to deal with the public. Don't be disheartened though there are some out there, you will just have to look.

a qualified engineer cannot approve anything without a further course in the mod code they are approving. also the person doesnot have to be an engineer for the minor mods like motor swaps, 5 links, body swaps, etc. "major mods" need an engineer things like full tube chassis conversions, etc. bigger mods like 44"tyres on the street need engineers to sign of for every affected component/mod then a never ending battle with the dot big boys by mail starts.

this is in QLD anyway.

I would say something as basic as a coil conversion would be a blue plate job front and rear, so $75 for one $30 for the other. I have many numbers that i can pm when you are serious. they are on the coast, and in briz. Without looking into it if you just want coils and not longer arms, 3links and panhards etc, just get a coil chassis and swap. less dicking around and 100%legal in any state. they appear to be cheap as too.

cheers bru
