Hey all, quick question for a mate.

Whats involved in converting an MQ/MK 24volt diesel into 12 volt?

He has two trucks one is 12v and other is 24v. so should have all necessary parts (starter, alternator etc).

Starter motor and alternator, (I think the alternator brackets might be different?), glow plugs, pretty much every light in the whole car (headlights, brake lights, indicators, reverse lights, interior light, dash lights) headlight relays, starter relays blah blah blah.....the electronic control module thing under the metal panel next to the drivers side battery?

Buy a workshop manual, and look at the wiring diagrams, there's a couple of things running off 12V....so it's everything else.

I'm not 100% sure, but i'd assume the heater fan motor too?

Thats all I can think of at the minute....anyone want to add/correct?

yep fan blower and resistor, wiper dwell, wipers and to make matters worse i am damn sure the wiring is thinner in the 24v patrol cause after i did mine some of the wiring esp to the headlights got warm to hold onto.

I would personally really struggle to justify the work involved.

Sure, there are some hassles with a 24V system, but there are also some definite advantages.

Basically you'd be looking at swapping every single electrical component including the whole wiring loom.

so wat is the actual problem with 24v systems, hard to get accesories for?

thats a lot of changing stuff over. Think i'll try to talk him into keeping 24v. Seems like an awful lot of work for limited returns.
