This may be common knowledge to some but i had no idea how to wire up my new stereo to power until last night.. So i am posting this just FYI and for future reference as i may forget it. My stereo manual had fark all info in it as well (its a Snony)

You are required to run two wires to power: one wire to a constant source of power (your battery), put an inline fuse within 18 cm of the battery in the event of a power spike. And another to the accessories on the ignition (fuse box). By default, zooks should have two items wired to accessories, your cigarette lighter and radio. I couldnt find my old radio one as it was cut out so i wired it up to the cig lighter power instead. (in the diagram Bl is for blue.. duh :)

As a side note, dont connect the power till you have gotten everything wired up and the fuses are in place.

Hopefully this helps someone,

the inline fuse is actually placed close to the battery to prevent an explosion. if the vehicle is in a crash (very bad) and the + power cable shorts with the chassis (usually only with high powered amps) a large number of amps will pass through the cable and cause a direct short to the battery, if the fuse was not there it will keep supplying power until something gives. the fuse is there to stop anything blowin the battery up, not to protect ur amplifier. there is already a fuse on the amp to protect it. cheers.

used the mounting bracket that came with the stereo.. and as the previous owner ripped out the aesthetic dash mount i had to screw two holes up into the cross brace under the dash.. (if that makes sense).
I will be 'prettying' it up with some of that black checkerplate look rubber stuff so it is a bit neater, and splash proof :D
want photos?
