Outer Limits 4x4 Board

steps on the manuals say:

depress brakes n hold it in depressed state
other fella crack bleeder then tightens it
repeat 1 & 2
start engine, repeat steps 1 &2 until no air comes out bleeder plug

my question....
Is the engine suppose to be on when i start the bleeding brakes?
is it push and hold pedal then open bleeder & keep pumping once its open?

these instructions arent too clear to me as the process seems different
to other makes

PS there is no FAQ about brakes in daihatsu...and i searched

You want to keep your foot down on the brakes. If doing it the way you described and the bleed valve is open, if you release the brakes it will suck air up the brake lines and you will make more work for yourself trying to get it out.

Have not had to do a daihatsu yet. But the other models I have done, I have not had to to have the car on. A trick though so you don't spray brake fluid everywhere is to put a section of surgical tubing on the spout and lay it in a container with brake fluid in it. The end of the tubing should be under the surface of the brake fluid. This way when the pedal is pushed you can see when no more air is let out and if the system does suck any thing back in it will be only brake fluid, not more air.

Just pump the pedal a few times, get the other fella to crack it open and hold your foot down on the pedal until he does the bleeder back up. As said, if you pump it will suck stuff back into the system.
I've never bled a car with the engine running.

Also, do the furthest brake first to the closest. Eg if your booster is on the driver side, do the Left Rear, then RR, LF and RF last.
