GQ Power Steering Hoses

Hi all,

We have a '91 GQ pet/gas LWB. It appears that the hose that runs from the power steering fluid reserviour is leaking (not much but enough to be a worry) at both ends, where it attaches to the reserviour and the pipe coming out from beside the radiator. This hose leaked some time ago and I tightened it as best I could. The genuine Nissan hose clamps look like shite.

Has anyone had this problem before and how have they fixed it?

Any suggestions as to how I can fix the leaks and where I could get the bits and pieces from?

Cheers

If it's the low pressure hose just replace the hose with transmission hose & buy new clamps.

If its just a low pressure line, i would replace the hose clamps and also the hose if it looks to be getting old or worn. If its leaking on high pressure lines check to see if everythings tight. If everythings tight and its still leaking, it could be the o-rings on the lines connections if they seal with o-rings.

I suspect it will be the high pressure hose, this is a common problem with GQ's as they get older. Check if the leak is coming from under the sliding protective hose on the original high pressure line. It went on mine and I had a mate who helped me remove the hoses (both high and low pressure) and he then organised an onsite hose doctor to replace the burst hose. We pulled off both hoses as a unit as we thought it would then be easier to replace them the same way but in hindsight it would have been better to remove one at a time and get one hose back in place before removing the next one as it's a bit of a jigsaw getting them back in the right position.
The high pressure hose in particular needs to be very close to original orientation as it's pretty stiff and lining up the threads can be a little difficult.
Regards Andrew.
