Any one here or any where else done or seen a solid axle swap on a 98 Prado. Thinking of putting 80 series diffs under it or trying to find a diff that is about the same width, maybe a Bundy diff will go close. My Bro wants to run 35's and i think i can make it happen. Any thoughts

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the newer Prado have it's front transfer output on the passenger side? One place that sells custom diff housings with passenger side pumpkin is Diamond Axles in the States.

I'm sure 80UTE can build you one too.

A diff could be built either based on the 78 or 80 series front to re-arrange to have the pumpkin on the LH side is definitly possible. If its a V6 prado the engine is quite large so you need to determine that there will be room for solid axle to move up and still clear the sump.

Why bother with a solid axle swap just to run 35's?

body lift and a little lift you'll squeeze 35's under there.

Cause i can, i hope. Just something different. Yes its a V6 and Yes we have a bit of work ahead. The only trouble is that my bro does not have much patience so we'll see how we go

do the axle swap u can build it so you can make it move alot more than independent shit. yea you can do a body lift and a bit of suspension lift to fit 35s my mate did it wit his pajero bit u get no movement you will just lift wheels do the swap.
there is a pajero that did a solid axle swap i believe it was Bitsamissin but i might be wrong pm him and ask

keep it posted if u go ahead with it cos im interested

These trucks have a weak transfercase, so do some research before you go too far.

Prado's are tuff as, the transfer case is as strong as a Hilux it just has more electronic stuff in it. A mate runs one with 35's & 5" of lift (Including body lift) as well he has front & back lockers, V6 auto and it goes every where. Yeah he lifts wheels but with the twin lockers its not really a drama.
But a solid front would be cool  .
Give Cheezy Racing a call to see what can be done.

They break the plantary carrier in the transfercase if abused.
