Had a playup at toolangi yesterday, and in one boghole i had to give it a few goes.
When i grabbed reverse and tried to get out, it made a terrible squeel/whine. Did it a few times in the hole, but nothing when reversing later on.
On the drive home i noticed that i had a speed dependant whine from the drivline (pitch increases with speed), initially it was only evident in 3 gear and above, but i can hear it in second as well.
A quick inspection and i have some small spots on the rear diff (oil from further up the driveline??), a slight leak from the pinion seal, and the rubber plug on the drivers side of the gearbox looks to have come out a bit.
There are no vibes in the gearstick, and slight vibes in the transfer shifter.
Diffs had 5.12s dropped in about 5000km ago, and had breathers fitted straight away, also new wheel bearings not long ago.
Been told that the unis where getting worn by mechanic a while ago too.
Sorry about the long post, but i cant drop the oils till i get my tools back from a mate.
Opinions?
Cheers

Driveline Noise?
Re: Driveline Noise?
To me this sounds like a clutch squeel, wet plate.Mudzuki wrote:Had a playup at toolangi yesterday, and in one boghole i had to give it a few goes.

Had a play with gearbox with transfer in neutral, and it seems to be the transfer making the continuous whine at speed.
Inreverse, it probably was clutch squeel
Can you get replacement rubber caps that are located on the passenger side bell housing? It had poped out, and has perished too far to bother putting back in.
Will check the oils when i get tools.
