2H Muffler

What mufflers are you blokes running. My 2H has extractors and a big arse muffler (straight through?, ie. Pipe is lined up at both entry and exit points) at the rear. Would maybe like a cheap replacement muffler to get a bit more sound coming out the back end (just bling factor)
Cheapest way just to get rid of muffler all together, or not advised. Have heard a turbo muffler is a little smaller (ie. Louder)

2 1/2 inch exhaust from turbo to end. Straight through muffler. I have tried removing my muffler and it sounds cool, like a mack truck....just a little too noisy.

How is pipe measured? Inside, or outside diamerter... im guessing 2 1/2 or 2 1/4. Its a non turbo, so no muffler wont be too loud?

Novice question, the muffler is the pretty big thing kinda back near the rear (passenger side) tyre kinda?

Yes. Its the only thing in the exhaust on the HJ60 apart from the exhaust pipe. Usually located in front of the rear passenger tyre.
My muffler is actually located between the chassis rail and the transfer case, the most part being protected by the bash plate of the transfer case.

If a new exhaust is put in, what happens to the muffler? Do they just weld it on the new one, or do we get a new one?

Hi Guys...
Here's my 5cents worth. I ran my old non turbo patrol without a muffler and found it to be quite noisy (Too noisy for the boys in Blue), Also I noticed a big decline in performance. I beleive all engines requise some back pressure (which is usually privided by the muffler) removing the mufler reduces the back pressure and the performance suffers. With turbo vehicles the turbo provides the back pressure so when you remove the muffler the vehicle will get a fair bit louder without a very noticeable drop in performance. Severeal of my mates temoved mufflers of their Turbo Diesel rigs and they clain it maade thier trucks a bit more responsive.

echo...echo....
So a muffler purely is for a bit of back pressure and to obviously muffle the sound coming out of the exhaust?

Ok, just went and did some measuring...
it goes, EXTRACTORS, 2 1/2 pipe to the muffler, then 2 1/4 pipe out the back (about 1.5m of twisted pipe i might add).
The last 5cms or so is badly flattened due to constant wackings of it between the ground and the rear bumper.
Yeah, im going to go see the exhaust place on monday. See what they can do.
Hopefully not too much $$$.

Hi
I would recomend you get a sports muffler put on it. It will give you a nicer note. i tend to beleive that Turbo mufflers shoud stay on turbo vehicles... A good non turbo sports muffler should be what you need.

Ok, well im rapped...
Got the new muffler on, and the new stainless 2.5in tail pipe. (muffler sits about mid way between motor and rear of car) A few mufflers were tried and this one sounded the best. Although it has offset entry/exit points, the 2.5pipe (previously 2.25) seems to make everything run a bit easier.
After a little bit of driving, am happy with sound, not too loud, but just a bit gruntier.
Seems to rev a lot easier, and now downshifts under revs a lot easier. Not sure if this is a result of less backpressure. Will be interesting to see how it crawls down hill now when i take it out this weekend.
Anyways, ill see if i can get some pics once the sun comes back up...
Oh, and all up it was $180.
Cheers!
