Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Here's a link to some pic's of my latest creation, and there is a Daihatsu connection here, the g'box is from an ancient F20.

The rest of it is -
Very modified Suzuki chassis, Subaru Brat engine, Range Rover axles, springs and power steering. The seats are QT kevlar.

It will have Maxicross tyres on Discovery rims, they're in the shed waiting. and a bit more bodywork but not much, just front mudguards and maybe small doors.

There's also some pictures from one of our trials at the abandoned Trisant lead mine, on top of a Welsh mountain.

Have you tested those turning brakes yet? Good bit of professional looking engineering there I've got turning brakes but they don't work with a Detroit TruTrac. A lot of engineering on the whole rig. Are you using Range Rover radius arms? I've got RR arms on the front. I'd like to see the mounts for the calipers. Looks like you and your mates have some good times. I have a friend that has a D90 and if I remember right Rover axles have removeable third members like Toyota and Daihatsu...is that correct? All of that Frankenstein work is time consuming but cool. I'll shut up now.

No, they're untested. But if the Fiat cylinders aren't good enough then I'll buy a CNC lever set. If that doesn't work, then I have another plan!

Some of the other guys in my club have fiddle brakes and use the CNC levers, but they have them piped into the existing braking system so that they use the existing rear brakes through the same brake lines as the foot brake.
And I think it's a crap system to be honest, even though the CNC setup is supposed to allow this, the fiddle and foot brake always seem to interfere with each other - if you're fiddle braking and press the foot brake most systems seem to pull the lever out of your hand.

Which is why I'm going for a complete seperate system and leaving the foot brakes standard.
The back brakes on any vehicle are going to be be far less powerful than the front, either by by being smaller or compensated hydraulically, which is another reason to fit some more powerful calipers.

Fitting those 4 pots was easy, it's nothing more than a bit of 5mm thick plate that's drilled / threaded to match the caliper mounting holes, then it was just shaped to fit the axle and welded on.

I have Rangey front radius arms at both ends, mounted narrower than standard to allow more articulation. The fronts are also cranked to allow more turning circle. They're a bit OTT maybe, but they ain't gonna break!
