I just diasembled the rear differential on my Patrol MK, for a change of bearings and seals, but there is a problem, I can't remove the pinion to take out the pinion bearings.
What I have to do? :?: I tryed with a big hammer but no luck, is there a special tool or something like that? :?

The second question is how much play, must the bearings on the axles have - how tighten must they be?

There are specific preload and backlash settings for the diff, more than likely they will be found in the bible...

with the removal... You need to undo that big nut on the pinion and use a puller to get the flange off... the rest comes out from the inside to the best of my knowledge... Though ive only ever pulled a front pinion out not a rear.....
