Heathers 1984 1.0L engine is feeling a bit tired. I'm wondering what is the easiest and cheapest engine to drop in as a replacement. The aim is to put in a reliable engine with as little fuss as possible. Trying to work out if it's cheaper to drop in a different donk, or get a rebuilt 1.0L...

Replacement engine for 1.0L Sierra
Cheap...Easy....no fuss....
My opinion is if you are not going to go beserk with the mods rebuild the 1lt for here car.
There is a guy in the Suzi club with a 1lt donk, series one rock hopper running 30in tyres without a hassle.
For Ease, Cheapness and lack of fuss rebuild the 1.0lt. You are amazed at how many little things have to be done when you change over an engine. If a 1.3lt is your liking sell the 1.0lt and buy one with the 1.3lt and 5sp as standard. Easy.
My thoughts anyway.

The thing i have found recently with 1 litre engines (around here anyway) is that getting one in good nick is very hard, because they are all stuffed or worn out...i know of a certain wrecker who wanted a grand for one a few months ago...so yeh either go the rebuild or drop a 4K in it if u want to go the cheap replacement option IMHO

The 3k,4k and 5k Engines are from a Toyota Corolla. The later one had a 5sp box.
I haven't done one of these but have heard that you also need to lift the body in order to get it under the lid. This still doesn't meet with your requirements because it won't be cheap and easy unless you are prepared to do all the work yourself. Also if it is an everyday driver I would still say stick to the 1.0lt get it rebuilt.

I've seen people mention the 4k option (and seen a few for sale with this engine). Does anyone know what is actually involved with putting this engine in and what vehicle this engine comes out of?
If you have to change motors I'd go with a 660cc one (a la Cappacino - although they come from lots of different sources). However the cost would be more than the potential benefit unless you were doing more to the car.
You could also try 1.0 Swift/Barina as another source for 1 litre motors - I believe you will find there are differences in the manifolds but you should be able to use yours on the Swift engine.
I think the Dizzy is different too, but that's not the bit that's broken on yours is it?

I think that unless you got it out of a cappuccino it would probably be from a FWD car. These engines have a few issues to do with the position of the dizzy etc, that would mean that you would probably have to source the head off a cappuccino (with the dizzy etc in the right place) to make it worth while...
On the other hand, it looks like the block should be the same from one of these cars as the cappuccino one, so if i do blow up the cap motor, i should be able to replace it with one of the cheaper FWD 660cc engines

Im not going to bother doing an engine swap until mine dies..if it aint broke, then dont fix it
(But yours is broke by the sounds murray). Mine goes fine on 31s and with the rockhopper...its crap trying to drive up sand dunes (ask redzook bout that) but it isnt a beach bitch so i dont care

HAVE FITTED 1600 INTO 1LT it does fit if you set up the engine mts correctly without a body lift ,but i fitted a 1300 bonnet. everything fitted just nicely.you should see a 308 auto in a sierra transport dont like it though

Yeah I knew that I was just pissed.
Barina's are a good source for 1.3's.
