1st winch comp vehicle???

Hi all...

Would love to try to get into a few of the novice winch comps, and got thinking about what sort of vehicle to put a bit of money into.

I know everyone will say a GQ, but i was thinking more along the lines of a 45series tray.

Is it naive to think that this is a good way to start out. Spring it over, v8 or 1hz diesel conversion, turbo and some decent rubber, hi-mount roll cage etc... Would be daily driver aswell ofcourse.

Just putting it out there, and would love some input here. The old 60 is just not winch material.

Thanks guys.

A 45?.......Why not if thats what blows yer hair back! Theres a few getting around the comps, from memory a 45 came third at 4x4 Supertrucks too? So mate if that type of vehicle is what you like, go for it, it will add to your enjoyment of the sport! Personally I own a GQ and can see why they do so well, I wouldn't consider anything else personally.

good luck which ever way you go!

if you are building from scratch why not build a hybrid. throw a glass 45 tub on a 80 series or gq/u chassis. that way you get a more competetive vehicle for less $$$ and the motor conversion is done

Yeah, 4 sure... Never even thought of going down that path. I guess it can be done. Save most of the mucking around with the usual engine swap gremlins, and you'll get the wider track from 80s diffs, coil suspension, a pretty competitive vehicle. 45series body a fair bit narrower than an 80 series but eh....

If you put it on a GQ chassis you will have all the after market gear avaible to you which would make it alot easier to set up and get advise on what to do.

Hmmm, its starting to sound like just get a GQ

Perhaps a little more outlay, but better investment...

Im sure a GQ tray could be made different enuff to every other gq thats getting around.

All the boxes are ticked, price and weight. And would be a better daily driver im tipping then. Maybe a bit more room in the cab too than and old cruiser...

i saw a gq for $5000. the other day pretty tidy too. not as much hassle as they already have disc brakes and good strong diffs and transfer.
