LT 230 -PART TIME 4WD

Does anybody out there know where I can get an LT230 Part Time TransferCase Conversion in Aus? I know BCB in the States make a kit but I was hoping to avoid the import effort. If anyone does,where and how much is the kit? In case anyone is interested check out this stuff.

If I remember corectly, it is a conversion for the disco 2 that did not have the centre diff lock, just relied on traction control.

The kit fits a electric motor to the diff lock shaft allowing you to lock the centre diff.

I was told that the part time kit you are talking about is -part time traction control. As Michael said "Fits an electronic motor for centre diff lock" This inturn over rides the traction control (so you don't get stuck on a 10 deg slippery hill). That traction control set up controls wheel slip by applying the brakes, so if all 4 wheels loose grip under acceleration the brakes go on. :roll:
Not real handy in winter out in the scrub eh.

As i said this is what i was told so don't quote me on it..

The only one I know of is from BCB.

It is a spool that replaces the bevel gears in the centre diff.

when this is fitted how do you stop drive train windup ???

From what I can tell, with those parts fitted, the old centre diff lock mechanism will become 2wd/4wd selector.

I think the 4wd Systems kit is a 2wd/4wd selectable kit as they do one for 80/100 series 'cruisers as well, and it includes free wheeling hubs.

Phone them and ask. 08 8369 0033, $695 on the add I have here.

I have to ask, why would you want to ??

reason for the want for a 2wd conversion is simple.
A; 2wd has its advantages in the bush too. ie sharp cornering (spinning the ass end around) not to mention we all like a bit of 2wd in the mud occasionally.
B; The use of 4wd on the road increases the chance of damage/wear and tear to driveline componants, adds strain to the whole vehicle, increases fuel costs and lessons power to the ground.

Think of it this way, every joint in the drive line looses hp/torque (power) to the ground, so by eliminating half of them (ie front wheel drive) you increase useable power and fuel economy. Not to mention rubber on the front two boots.

As for the windup, you cant get it in 2wd only 4wd so that is not an issue. By loosing the full open centre diff you also no longer get those eratic power transfers through the driveline ending up in a blown diff. You all know the ones i am talking about.

the 4wd systems part time conversion kit does turn the lt 230 into 2wd.
the kit also comes with free wheeling hubs to disconnect the front drivetrain.
probably a good move for a rover doing high km's. it takes a lot of stress of the front end that would come from high mileage.
f.w. hubs with different axles (maxi/jmac), i'm not sure about.
