hilux leaking injector pump!

has anyone ever takin out an injector pump out of an 84 mod 2.4lt deisel hilux 2wd? if so is it easy or am i better off taking it to a mechanic? if i need it takin to a mechanic, is there anyone in sydney willing to take it off for me and when ive rebuilt it put it back on? (paid work ofcourse) the prob i have is that its leaking fuel and i dont know where from! thanks in advance ;)

It's relatively simple.

First thing First you'll have to remove the radiator ect-anything thats blocking the front of the engine. After that you'll have to remove the crankshaft pully-you will have to use a pully puller for this

2. remove the cam belt cover
3. set the engine timing to top dead center, you should see all the timimg marks on the engine block & head line up
4. remove the cam belt
5. disconnect all the fuel lines behind the injector pump
6. use a pully puller to remove the gear drive from the pump/ first remove the bolt!
7. remove the 2 blots holding the pump to the engine block
8. presto the pump should be off

P.s When assembling the pump back to the engine make sure the cam timing is right and make sure the injector pump timing marks line up with the flange

I too have the same prob in my 2.4 diesel it usually leaks around the top plate gasket.I would let the pro's do it all.I got a quote to do mine and it was around the $600 mark.A lot to pay yes but worth it in the long run.Sometimes if you wanted to try it get your fuel from a different garage as mine takes up and actually stops leaking for months at a time.It has something to do with the sulphur content of the fuel and this eats into the seals and gaskets and makes them leak.Everyone told me that BP was the worst fuel for this and not to buy it that is one of the brands that stop mine leaking.Worth a try hope this helps a bit.Some other people out there may have different views.But that is what works for me.As I just don't have that spare 600 at the moment.

I had the top seal (where the throttle spring sits) leak on my 2L pump. It was $600 or so if you wanted the whole pump overhauled (what they recommend) I paid $150 and they just fixed the top seal with the pump still on the engine. 3 years on and there was not another problem.
