grand vitara transfer case problem
grand vitara transfer case problem
Has anyone had a problem with a grand vitara transfer case?My 4wd light came on while driving in 2wd and it feels like its not seleceting back into 2wd after i stuffed around trying to get the light off .There is also a slight noise for transfer while driving along . Can anybody help me out ?or has anyone eles had the same problem ?
The light for 4wd is activiated by circuit to the front diff. It sound like your front diff is engauged, even though your transfer is in 2wd drive. This will explain the noise from the transfer case as the diff will be spinning the transfer gears. Try jacking up one wheel, then spin it. The front drive shaft should not spin when you do this. If you can't spin the wheel then the transfer case is also engauged. If justt he drive shaft spins, then the front diff in engauged.
How it us supposed to work is you shift into 4wd high, the transfer case engauges the front drive drive shaft, which spins the diff, and then the vacume engauges the front drive shaft to the diff, giving front wheel drive. If the electrical switch thinks you are in 4wd, then the front diff will engauge. Supposible if the light is on, the front diff is engauged.
I smashed the connector on the front of the front diff, preventing the diff fron engauging to the axles, had the transfer case in 4wd, and only had rear wheel drive.....
