Steering Vibration at 80 kays.... HELP
Hi fellas,
Cousin has a "98 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Truck runs well except for steering vibes.
3 months ago a Jeep dealer changed the front CV's (supposedly clicking), and straight out of the dealer it had steering vibe at 80 kays. Took it back, and saw the mechies rebalance the front tyres. It's better but still vibrates a little through the cabin at 80 kays, though their is no vibration through the steering wheel... I'm confused.
Is their something the dealer missed, something in the stub axle etc. possibly not tight? I know it coulb be tie rods but it wasn't there before.
All theories welcome.
P.S .Do 31" tyres fit under stock guards on these?
Cheers,
Pat

is the vibration through the steering wheel or do you feel it through the car itself.
through the steering wheel is usually an indication for a wheel alignment or a balance.
tthrough the vehicle is when you start looking at what the other guys have mentioned.
but each jeep is different so whats been the case with me may be way off base with you.

Its ok to eat fish.. cause they dont have any feelings
M8 I'd seriously be looking at the tie rod ends and ball joints.
In reality a good steering set-up should not need the steering dampener, if a steering dampener "fixes" the problem then you need to look else where as the steering dampener will only be masking the problem.
I would bet it's a tie rod end from the drag link, seeing it is a 98 model the tie rod ens will be slighyl used. If they are the problem I am developing a new system that will help eliminate all those issues useing 100 series tie rod ends, it is about 3-4 weeks away.
