Fitted a 1KZ-TE to my 2000 model hilux engine seems reliable so far torque of engine for towing and crusing on the freeway are the best things i have got out of it but the conversion it's self i had to change a lot of things and it cost me a fare few dollars.

1. Had to move engine mountings on chassis rail (later model luxes with efi injector pump you don't have to)

2.Had to change gear box as origional one doesent bolt up,as the 1kz has a bigger box bellhousing and clutch.

4. Had to strip both transfer cases and change the 1kz transfer input shaft into the 200 hilux one because 4x4 is actavated by electric motor on 1kz and mine was mechalically operated because it's not an SR5(not sure if you have to do that on an sr5 hilux?)

3.Had to change front and rear tailshafts as the were different lenghts

4. Changed the injector pump from the electronic one.

5. Had to get it dynoed to set up the new pump.

6.changed the radiator as the 1kz is bigger same as the later model luxes,if you dont do this one the 1kz fan shroud will not fit and you can't use the origional one as the engine fan is in a different spot.

Got 1 in the Surf. Love it, especially with the auto offroad. Great torquey motor. Pushes the Surf along quite well.

Economy is about 11l/100k in a manual and about 13l/100k in the auto.

Not too many problems with them compared to the 2LTE but I have been unlucky and had to replace the head at 200k's cos I had a overheating problem.

Mine is awsome....i really love it....off road it is farkin awsome it makes the car so much more drivable and now i can drive all over heaps more modded trucks than mine....well worth it.

If you are putting it in a gen 3 lux let me know if you want to know anything about the conversion coz me, my dad and two mates had the old motor out and the new one in and running in 3 days.
My mind is like a steel trap....quite dangerous because i forget where i left it.
