:bad-words: ok, if you dont have time to listen to a rant, clik on the X at the top right NOW... u have been warned.

Everyone i spoke to when i was buying my rocky, and every review in a 4x4 mag i read, said they were 'bulletproof', un-breakable etc etc. In line with this, they also said that the Gearbox and Tcase was complete overkill for a car/engine that size and you'd never have trouble with that atleast.... Not one month after I bought the car, the 1st thing of many to go, the gearbox :bad-words: x50. So, bearings replced, some shaft thingy repaired. Ok, good to go. Month or so later, water pump, then sum other crap wich i cant remember, then recently, t-case has a stuffed gear  .... NOW FOR THE STRAW, VIEW ATTACHED FILE.
(For those that cant tell, its the bonnet hingy thingo)

HOW FLAMIN SKINNY IS THAT LIL PEICE OF STEEL!!!!!,AND THAT BONNETS DAMN HEAVY. I hope the rest of the car aint made of crap like that.

I know its not much, but up until this mornig i hav loved this car....... and now that i have had my rant i will prolly go back to loving it in a few days

EDIT: Just so that there is atleast a scerric (sp) of tech in this post, has anyone else had this go on em?

It's over 20 years old now so if it's only just starting to break things it's done alright.

Out of interest how many kms has it covered too?

Any vehicle, no matter how well made, will not last if not maintained properly. (Not saying you don't maintain it, but who knows what previous owners have, or haven't, done?!)

Yeah, i'm prolly being pretty rough on it, its just that its my 4th car, and i treat this one like a baby (unless its offroad  ) always serviced on or before 5000, driven gently 98% of the time, use the expensive oil, and its allways got sumthing wrong with it. My other 3, I think i may have done ONE service between the 3 :D , and always topped up with $9 home brand oil, most i had to do was lights for rego and a CV boot on one. And the other of the others, 2 where 1985 and one 1987. And they were really driven hard onroad, dumping clutch etc maybe 50% of the time  :D

Its got 320 000 on the clock, on its second engine, and i'm pretty sure the 1st gearbox woe was cuz of the previous owner he never took it offroad but drove it like a ricer  .

Driving back from Darwin last week, my water pump went on me 4km's short of 231,000. Right in the bloody middle of no where!

This is the F78 Rocky I'm referring too as well.

I'd just replaced the steering components as well, and one of my uni joints was replaced about 10,000km's ago. Apart from that, she's been mostly trouble free.

Hit a roo in her the other night, and geez he must have been a solid roo. He put a nice bend in my bullbar (nothing serious, but it's not exactly a flimsy bullbar), and a small ding in the door. I think the roo came out second best though!

I own a 1984 F60 Scat with nearly 300,00km's on the clock.
Still on first engine, though new head gasket and set of valves later (lack of maintenance by previous owner :x ).
Gearbox still goes but need a rebuild (again lack of maintenance by previous owner. It was black when I changed it! ).
I still love it and in a slow process of doing it up.

P.S. Where can I get a gearbox overhaul kit for it? I would like to renew some of the syncro's as well.
