Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,

Just got back from the Melbourne 4WD Show. On display at the Marks Adapters stand was a Nissan Patrol front axle with 4" lift portal hubs mounted on each end! Looks like they change the diff ratio so that the final ratio is only 1.4:1 lower than standard.

According to the bloke on the stand, they will cost around the $12000 for front and rears, which included the new diff crowns and pinions. They are currently undergoing testing in a number of off road driven vehicles. The guy at the stand also reckons that they will be looking to get on-road approval for these devices (with appropriate wheels with big negative offset to normalise track).

Anyone else know anything about these?

IMHO, For that price it would be better off paying for mogs and still have enough money left over to get them installed.

Just on Marks - did you happen to get any gos on the new transfer reductions ( e.g. 43% ) Dont mean to steal the thread - but you been to the show an i aint.

there allways behind how long did it take them to get coils and constant 4x4. seems hella expencive i would still go for mog or volvo portals

Mogs r still alot of money to set up properly in any vehicle

they r cheap for what they r "IF" u can just bolt them up......but in 90% of the vehicles , that isnt a simple solution.....unless u want a vehicle in the clouds

therefore mogs r normally modified .....mainly the front atleast.....to move the pumpkin
therefore custom axles etc etc

or sometimes other centres with shorter pinions r swapped in also

and theres a few other alternatives on the market.....including OPW petes units with hummer drop hubs etc n ford 9inch centres.....but they cost more than the marks versions

Maxi-drive on the gold coast have been making portal boxes for landrovers/disco's/range rovers for about 2 years now. they are a true bolt on box, 123mm drop, 85mm wide, 1.31-1 reduction(in the box) run 4 gears=input, 2 idler's and output so direction is still the same. cost aprrox 10-12k. these are very well made and have been on many successfull comp vehicles around the world. the fronts bolt on after the cv which help to protect them.

they are obviously aiming at a narrow market..

their a bit slow, these were developed a few yrs ago

I think the Marks and The MD ones are a better designs than these. As the portal box bolts on after the CV. So you get the slighly lower ratio at the wheel without the extra stress on the CV.
As for the price I thought they would be about that much. As xfer geas are about $1200 a set not fitted. So with portals front and rear. You have 4 sets of gears plus the special boxs to put them in. So this price does seem resonable.
But as for being able to justifie them. well thats another story.

Also would be interesting to see them on a GQ with GU axles and these things would make each axle approx 270mm wider than a std GQ axle.

thats it, how could you justify that kind of expense unless you are filthy rich or you compete and have lots of sponsors? Its a great idea though, just too expensive at this stage.
