Can steering boxes drop their oil?

I just found this under the front of the zook. oil everywhere, only did 1 rhack on some fire trails on the weekend and a few road k's. before that it as dry down there.
Would this be from the box? I am only guessing this as the oil is below the taper on the box and not above this point.
Going to have a betta look tonight as well.
Got this leak also. might be blow back from the box or fuel pump seal gone.
cheers
Nic

looks like it might be engine oil, that oil looks like it came out under pressure, which me thinks wouldnt be the steering box. could be the front crank seal.

sometimes front seal only leaks going down a steep hill.
I had one that was fine normally, and spewed effluently on very steep rocky down bits.
but could be steering box, too?

Good point Christova, i did go down some steep sandtracks that night. Gonna give it a wash tonite and run the engine to see if any is coming out anywhere.
Bazooked, whats required to replace the seal? a complete tear down of the front motor end?
cheers

Nic - test the downhill slope thing with some ramps or something on the driveway (or neighbours driveway incase it does leak!)... at least you can hop out and have a peek at it...
Might also be kinda obvious - but is your oil cap still on? Mine dropped off while driving down the freeway once - luckily the extractors caught it =P but oil was all over the diff/steering/brakes...
