Well - it appears I have found a novel (yet not recommended) way to fix noisey tappets.
1. Find a moderately busy road and cruise at 60km.
2. Have a dumba$$ mofo pull out from side street infront of you.
3. Lock all wheels with HARD BRAKING (smoking is optional)
4. Watch the whites of the little kiddies eyes in the backseat of the quickly approaching vehichle.
5. Give KIA Sportage a good hefty smack in the rear and eyeball driver who is now facing you.
6. Say a few quiet words to yourself and promise to wash your mouth out before you kiss your mum next time you see her.
Jabber will be in for repairs for about 2 to 3 weeks but through all this a tappet that has come back to haunt me has suddenly shut up. I don't know which of the above steps did the trick or maybe it's a combination of all but it worked.
No injuries and no money coming out of my pocket so it could have been a lot worse.
