Air locker line bringing up diff oil
Hi there when I dis-engage my locker, instead of the usual quick release of air, its takes a couple of seconds and its spews up a little diff oil. Anyone come across this before? I checked the diff breather and pipe and they were ok.
I've got a WEAPON OF MOSS DETRUCTION
not necessarily.crankycruiser wrote:the O ring in the locker is buggerd.. easy to fix but have to pull the diff out to do it....
the O ring is only a couple of bucks...

probably gives the most comprehensive discussion of this very common 'problem'
Free air locker to the first 20 callers!
The most likely cause for this is that the seal housing is not centralized over the locker and it works like a pump. ARB done a upgrade to the lockers about 1 year ago were the seal housing is centred by the orings and held in place with a spring clip this was done the eliminate this problem. If this has happened over some time you can dissconnect the line the diff end press the locker button and blow all the oil out the air line. You may need to do this as you notice the oil build up or otherwise you need to pull the locker out replace the orings and resucure the housing ensuring its central.

Howdy,
My rear lockers have only been in for a month so I doubt that I have any worn seals yet. Mine does exactly the same thing.
On disengaging the locker a slight mist of oil comes out the valve on the compressor. After a bit of use I get a nice puddle of diff oil in my rear tray.
The intaller indicated that this can be a common instance and purge vlave is the way to go, unfortunately due to the relatively tight space in my diff, I am told one will not fit....... so bottom line I have to put up with it.
Cheers

you should not need to put it on the diff....also shouldn't leak at all if installed correctrainsey wrote:Howdy,

not necessarily. the install can be fine and it can still spew a bit of oil. read my comments in this thread:Tiny wrote:...shouldn't leak at all if installed correct

the purge kit can be install anywhere along the line, i just run 2 small silencers on my valves to restrict the vapour a lil, if it gets 2 bad i will just plumb up some 4mm or 6mm like to the exhaust ports and vent it into the atmosphere out side the cab on into the engine,

Hey guys,
I am only going by what the ARB reseller has told me. The indication that he gave me was that the purge kit was actually installed in the diff itself. I take it from the vibes from this thread it is not.
As a total ignoramous... what does the purge kit actually consist of??
It sounds like this is a common occurance!
