freewheel hubs

Post by slosh »

I read that Trition/ Challenger/ base Pajero freewheeling hubs will bolt onto super select Pajero (NH auto). Was thinking about chasing this up soon mainly for better economy- but was wondering if they really make that much difference to fuel consumption?

Anyone have some figures?

They migh make a little bit of difference. With manual free wheeling hubs the cv and shafts don't turn, with the auto free wheeling hub it only dissconnects the right hand shaft at the diff so both shafts and cv still rotate  . The biggest advantage is the lack of wear on cv boots especially if you have raised the front I find the v's on the cv boots rub together wearing through, manual hubs stop this wear on the road greater cv boot life

Dunno if it saves any fuel, running 35's these days I don't think anything would save much fuel.

I put the hubs on to try and preserve the CV's a bit
wtf is an acronym

OK thanks- makes sense. Probably worth doing to cut down cv wear regardless of economy.
