Just to throw a curve ball here, I have one of those round ones that are fully encapsulated with rubber self amalgamating tape,
I am wrapped in it, it is bullet proof, and @ 10M long the extra length gets you a bit further from the crap, (we could all do with a bit more length ;) )
they cost a bit more than regular straps, but I think for me, it may last a lot longer,
probably no big deal if you do the right thing and wash your strap after every use, let it dry then store it safely in its own little cloth bag and be carefull not to let it slide across anything sharp, (and we all do this don't we?????? :) )

I looked at these at ARB BRighton about 30 mins ago.. $150ea  Or I would have grabbed one, so I went for the stocky old strap for $60

They do look good, how do you find the loops on the ends, htey were VERY rigid and would have sucked to try and get into a towbar hole I think...

I start in the middle and work my way out, and bugger me if their not always on the end. :D :finger:

I always have mine attatched to an eye bolt so I don't know if it would fit in a reciever.
One draw back is they don't pack as small as a flat strap, but I always have mine wrapped around my spare tyre so it is no problem for me.

I take it this is what you have droopypete?

Image

A few years back one of the mags did a reasonably comprehensive snatch strap test - a lot performed poorly, including the ARB ones.

p.s. you get a lot of "interesting" results when you type "black snake snatch strap" into google...

Yeah but from memory, if you read the separate section on the Black Snake strap in that test they rated very highly. They kept it separate because of price and design.

Black snake 8 tonne strap excceded its rating by over 2 tonne, and their test bench wasnt long enough to break it... IIRC

They also make them up to 200tonne  for mining/haulage industry :D

its getting all to to technical now. i mean its just a long strip of material :P haha

but it seems that it would be fair to say that majority of 4x4 users would recomend the Just Strap brand. and also the ARB at a higher price and more "hardcore" 4x4?

200 tone? id pay to watch one of those mining trucks get bogged then have another massive truck get it out with a snatch strap. could be the cover page for 4x4 hardcore monthly. lol

thanx heaps for all the repsonse and info but i think il go with the 8 tone 12m just strap. cheers, mitch
