if u want a serious off road hilux u would be better off to start off with one that is already solid axle

Dont waste your money on doing the suspension on that model hilux..
If you want a capable hilux sell it and go for a pre 97 Solid Axle..

if ya wanna lift it to throw bigger meat under it, wind up the torsion bars on the front, and slap some extended shackles on the rear.
then do a 2" body lift and you'll be able to clear bigger rubber - 33"s probably.

yeah can make the shackles up yourself, it aint too hard, i dont like the idea of the superior ones however i have never used them i just run 200mm eye to eye shackles in the back they do the job and like i said u can make them up yourself
, shocks..... either procomp or rancho's u wouldnt need long ones cuase with the ifs you wouldnt get that much flex being ifs

ifs hilux is not the ideal fourby, but if you want to fit a 2 inch rear springs with extended shackles & you must use extra long shock otherwise its all a waste of time. rear springs $350 40mm ext shackles $60ea extra long shocks $100ea this will give you some serious flex in the rear end. wind up or replace torsion bars.$300. fit a bodylift $375 & run 33s & front locker this will get you most places you would want to take a 05 lux. if you want any superior stuff i can help with that as well

can you get a picture for urs of it flexing?
here is a picture of mine flexing it has ifs rears and rears up front on a 1982 hilux, the tyres are 33's by the way.
the suspension modifications were fairly easy in that picture the front is maxing out its procomp es9000's 12" travel shocks and as you can see i really cant fit anything bigger as it is right up in the inner guard. the back wheel is off the ground approx 90-100cm however the ifs rears can get more flex with some minor modifications

Throw a 2" BL under the cab
Fit 2" longer shackles
Wind up front bars and cut down the lower front bumpstops
Fit longer shocks
Remove front swaybar
Fit 33s and pound the inner front guards/firewall with a big hammer.
An ARB airlocker or two is a good idea also (will make more difference to where you can go than the lift and tyres).
Now if you wheel it hard you will -
Break the front diff crownwheel (front ARB will help stop this)
Bend the steering idler arm or at least flog out the bushes regularly
Blow CVs (not as common as crownwheels but will happen)
Go the SAS!
It is a big job though if you want to do it right.

the rear of ifs hilux will flex as good as the early hilux it is still leaf sprung its just the front that is not as good - the locker helps compensate for ifs. i agree leaf front & rear is the better way to go. my previuos comment was onlt if you want to stick with your ifs hilux

One thing people are forgetting is you can't wind up the torsion bars in the front of a new hilux

I though the new Hilux where a torsion bar front end ? Why can't you wind them up ?

thr new hilux recently released has strut front like a prado. you can lift them by fitting new coils. previus hilux has torsion bars & they can be wound up but cutting bump stops first is a good idea. new torsion bars are better than winding old ones. new bars are heavy duty. they dont give any more height but give better control

Mine is a 93 Dual cab 2.8D luxie... i can't remember, but it was about 12 or 14 blocks in total for mine.
Queensland transport approved, A-OK. I used polyethalene blocks for the lift. i have a thread about it on here somewhere.

Gees looks like everybodys choice of an up grade is different, and just to let everbody know the 05 lux is setup just like a prado with the strut front end, its not my ideal fourby but due to work that shit that pays the bills havent got much choice a lifted 80 or 100 series would be nice can only dream i guess

There are a multitude of options, primarily, what kinda of 4WD do you do?
Beach work? - 2" BL, and 50mm suspension lift, 33's, rear locker and get the engine re-tuned to cope with bigger tyres and youll be fine..
rock hopping or mud? by Drop Bears Hilux, youll definnately come out with beer money... or,
How is the front cross member connected to the chassis? Would it be possible to drop the front x-member and diff using some solid steel/T6 aluminium blocks, space out the bottom of the strut mount and top to fit longer shocks/springs, get some sway-bar d/c, fit some aftermarket rear leaves and extended shackles (pm slayer he does awesome ones for around $100 a pair) 2" BL, and twin airlockers.....
