After the weekend found that the control handle on the hub that locks/ unlocks the clutch is pretty much rooted! It it possible to replace the bronze coloured control handle or do I need to replace the whole hub?? What does a new one/ 2nd hand job cost? Thanks Joel?

p.s anyone got one they don't need anymore to suit a 60?

I just saw some refirb ones from the local wrecker for around $170, so it would be alot cheaper to search around for the bits and pieces.

Behind the control hanlde, where the extended bit turns the clutch to lock the hubs. The extended bit is not there. I compared it ot the other hub, and when I pulled the good side out in the 'FREE' position the handle came out wih the large spring attached to the clutch. On the other side this does not hhappen.

I rang my local 4x4 place and they want $99 for one side. They said I can't just replace the control handle, I have to replace the entire hub. i was of the understanding that I could replace it, but oh well. There is a pair of these going on eBay at the moment. Im bidding at the moment for $45 for both sides on eBay. Fingers crossed.

i think they are telling you that you need to replace the whole hub because thats what they want to sell you, you just need to find someone that will sell you the control handle. As others have suggested, ask turbo4t he may be able to help you out. What exactly is rooted about it?

correct 80's are the same size as HiLux which is smaller than 40 and all 40, all 60 and all 70 are the same size.

the reason the ASAINS won't fit the pre 1980 housing's is because the standard CV's are longer and the sirclip's(sp) are in different spot along the axel's than the post 1980's.
the fit but will not lock/ unlock they act as a constant hub. found thid out the hard way too.

WHAT????

the free wheeling hub from a solid axle hilux will fit a late 40, 60 or early 70 series.

it's the diff center that's the same size as a hilux

from memory 80 series cv's (and maybe the *ZJ7X series) are larger, and that's why these hubs won't fit.

this is what i thought cause i try to fit late 40 hubs to and early 40 housing and you can see, if you put and 2 different era outer axel'd (cv) beside each other the grove for the sirclip's are in different spot's. if i can get the 2 differetn era's toghter i'll get a for you.

and yes i could be wrong. :?

early 40 cv were held in with a bolt and stepped washerand the cvs do have a longer stub

You can replace these withe the later model cvs and the assin hubs will fit 40, 60 & 75 series axels and i am pretty sure they will fit 80 also

Pretty nifty unit hubs are. Now that I've pulled some apart I know how they work properly.

but early discbrake/ 1976-1980 long wheelbase drum hubs are held in with a circlip, but the cv is too long to fit the aisin hub.
